Cowboys Bid for Region II Title Falls Short

JENKS ---Connors State’s bid to reach the NJCAA Region II baseball championship game ended in their second elimination game Saturday at Hinch Field.

After defeating Seminole State 4-3 in a noon contest, Eastern State the defending champions defeated the Cowboys 7-4 in the night cap to advance to Sunday’s championship game against Northeastern A&M. The Cowboys end their season with a 39-20 record.

Eastern jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run RBI double by Sam King off Cowboys’ starter Jordan Morales. The Mountaineers pushed their margin to 5-0 in the third on a three-run home run by Jordan Mings.

Cowboys cut Eastern’s lead to 5-3 in the fourth on a three-run home run by Christopher Tavaras over the leftfield wall. Tavaras blast plated Tyler Wheeler and Wes Newman, who both reached on walks.

Eastern  increased its advantage in the sixth with two runs, scoring on an RBI single by Chris Munoz and a balk by Morales, giving Eastern a 7-3 lead

Cowboys missed an opportunity to cut into the Eastern lead, managing to push across one run, but left two runners stranded, trailing 7-4 after seven innings.
