Cowboys Explode Past Labette for Sweep
Connors State scored 8-runs in the second inning on a 3-run double by Heath Holliday and home runs by Matt Oberste and Chris Tavares in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Labette, Kan. to complete a sweep Wednesday at Biff Thompson Field. The Cowboys captured 17-1 and 8-1 victories.
Cam’Ron Summers went 3-for-4 and at the plate and scored three times in the first game. He hit a run-scoring double in the 8-run second. Wes Newman also had a multi-hit game going 2-for-3.
Oberste was perfect at the plate going 3-for-3, including a 3-RBI second game and his fifth home run of the year. He also had a 2-run homer in the sixth inning. Tavares hit a 3-run blast in the fourth, his second for the year.
Clint Spratlin (1-1) allowed 4 hits , struck out 6 over 4 innings to get win in the first game. Justin McGee pitched the fifth as the game was called on a run-rule.
Kyle Wormington (4-0) gave up 3 hits and struck out 7in the second game to get the victory.
Connors now 10-6 for the season plays Illinois Central in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
