Cowboys Fall to Coffeyville on 9th-Inning Balk

A two-out balk in the ninth inning sent Coffeyville’s Tony Burks home with the winning run as the Red Ravens defeated the Cowboys 10-9 on Thursday in Coffeyville, Kan.

The loss drops the Cowboys to 18-9 for the season as they resume play Saturday in Tishomingo against Murray State.

Errors were costly for the Cowboys in the game as Burks reached base on an error, stole second base and moved to third on a passed ball. One out later, Burks scored on the balk.

Tahlequah’s Dusten Knight, pitching in relief of starter Jordan Morales, was the loser to fall to 0-2 for the season. Morales pitching five innings, struck out five and gave up four earned runs in five innings.

Tyler Wheeler led the Cowboys with three hits, while Brodie Ross and Chris Taveres each pounding out two hits and three RBIs.
