Cowboys Pound Maplewood for Sweep
Connors State’s Matt Oberste’s two-run homer in the opening game of a doubleheader against Maplewood, Mo., powered the Cowboys to a 6-3 win and then he hit for the cycle in the nightcap in a 28-19 romp as the Cowboys improved to 16-6 and have now won seven straight.
Cowboys’ Oberste went going 4-for-5 with seven RBIs and another two-run blast, giving him nine on the year, in the second game.
Clint Spratlin, who got the win in the first game is now 3-1 for the season, scattered three hits, striking out 12, walking five and gave up three hits in going six innings. Dusten Knight struck out the side in the seventh for his first save.
The Cowboys pounded out 22 hits in the second game.
Eric Baker led the way going 5-for-6 with five runs with Cam’Ron Summers going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Brodie Ross, who had a two-run double in the opener, had a two-run homer his third of the season, and was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Wes Newman, was 2-for-3, driving in four runs.
Kyler Trumbla relieved starter Joey Ellison got the win, going 2 1/3 with three hits, four strikeouts and three earned runs. Ellison gave up five runs, all earned.
Connors’ game with Coffeyville (Kan.) Tuesday was cancelled due to rain, and they will resume play Saturday at home against Jefferson (Mo).
