Cowboys Sweep Rose State

The Cowboys upped its season record to 23-9 with a doubleheader sweep over Rose State Thursday, taking 4-2 and 2-1 victories at Biff Thompson Field.

Next action for the Cowboys is at Rose State on Saturday.

Wes Newman’s sacrifice fly scored Matt Oberste, who opened the seventh inning with a triple in the night cap, with the winning run.

 In the first game Newman hit a two-run double in the fourth giving the Cowboys a 3-2 lead. Oberste went 2-for-3 in the first game and Eric Baker was 2-for-4 in the second contest.

Jake Fisher pitching in the opener is now 2-2 for the year, struck out 13 and allowed four hits. Joey Ellison threw eight innings of six-hit ball, striking out six in the second, but Dusten Knight, 1-2, got the win by pitching a scoreless ninth, allowing one walk.
