Cowboys Sweep, Win Sixth Straight
Cam’ron Summers, Tyler Muse and Heath Holliday powered the Connors State Cowboys past Illinois Central and Kirkwood, Iowa, at Biff Thompson Field on Sunday.
The Cowboys used a seven-run first inning to roll over Illinois Central 20-1 and followed with a 7-2 win against Kirkwood, Mo., to extend their winning streak to six games and improve to 14-6 for the season.
In the first game Summers went 5-for-6 at the plate and drove in five runs. Chris Tavares pounded out three hits including two doubles while driving in two runs. Muse had three hits and scored four times in the win.
Jordan Morales got the win for the Cowboys (1-0) striking out six in six innings for the win.
In the nightcap, Muse had a two-out double in the fourth inning. Heath Holliday followed with a three-run home run. Eric Baker had two hits and scored twice.
Connors plays Maplewood, Mo., in a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. today.
