WOODWARD—Connors State Cowboys fell into the losers' bracket after a 9-8 loss to top seed Seminole State (40-10) 9-8 Saturday in the Region II Baseball Tournament.
The Trojans awaits the winner of the Eastern and Connors elimination game which was played late Saturday for the championship at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Seminole trailing 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh took the lead for good when Dalton Reed connected for a three-run homer.
The Cowboys scored five runs in the fifth inning for a 7-3 lead, but the Trojans managed to pull out the victory. Tony Hrynkiw, Colton Burgess, George Bell, Darin Luper, and Jake Womack all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the fifth inning.
Seminole captured the lead in the second inning 2-1 when Gunner Halter doubled scoring one run.
In the top of the fourth Connors tied the game 2-2 when Luper was hit by a pitch, driving in a run. Seminole then regained the lead 3-2 in its half of the fourth before the Cowboys erupted for five runs in the fifth.
Ryan Czanstkowski took the loss for the Cowboys. He lasted seven innings; allow 13 hits and nine runs striking out six.
Seminole blasted two homeruns on 13 base hits, with Reed going yard in the seventh and Deshawn Lookout in the sixth inning.
Colton Burgess led the Cowboys attack going 2-for-5 at the plate.
