JOPLIN, MO. ---Connors State pounded out 18 base hits, including three home runs en route to an impressive 15-0 five-inning run-rule victory over Delgado Community College Friday in the NJCAA South Central District Tournament at Joe Becker Stadium.
The 19th-ranked Cowboys take a 46-11 record into a 3 p.m. game against 10-ranked Crowder Community College (47-14).
Connors wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard plating four run in the first inning. Cowboys added two more in the second, including a solo home run by sophomore Jake Womack, giving the Cowboys a 6-0 advantage.
Cowboys increased their lead to 9-0 with a three-run third, and six runs in the sixth, which included back-to-back home runs by Womack and freshman David Mendham for the victory.
Connors' sophomore southpaw pitcher Brian Martinez (5-4) allowed Delgado just three base hits in getting the victory. He struck out five and did not give ujp walk in the five innings.
The winner of the Connors and Crowder match up will advance to Saturday's championship series, while the loser will play at 7 p.m. Friday.
