WARNER—Connors State Cowgirls upped is intensity and defensive pressure in the third quarter en route to a 59-42 victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan College Junior Varsity Monday at Melvin Self Field House.
Connors never trailed in the game but Cowgirls head coach Jamie Fisher admitted that his club came out a bit sluggish despite taking a 17-10 first quarter lead.
"We came out in the second half with a little more intensity and ready to go," said Fisher, adding, "Then again, we haven't had a break in a week."
The Cowgirls held the Eagles to just six points in the third quarter, outscoring Oklahoma Wesleyan 20-6 in the period to take a commanding 46-25 advantage.
The win improves the Cowgirls record to 4-1 on the season as they look ahead to a Saturday game with Allen County at 2 p.m. in Melvin Self Field House.
"I was really pleased with some of the things that we did," said Fisher. "We just have to learn to play four quarters.
