WARNER—Connors State Cowgirls head coach Jamie Fisher has said all season his club finds a way to win games.
Thursday night at Melvin Self Field House they did once again.
Cheyenne Marshall drained a 3-point shot at the top of the circle with 2.8 seconds remaining to lift the Cowgirls to a pulsating 58-55 victory over Murray State Aggies in an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference clash.
The Cowgirls improved to 13-5 on the year and 5-1 in league play while the Aggies fall to 5-11 and 2-3.
"I told our team that this was going to be a tough game," said Fisher. "But let me credit Murray. They came and played their butts off. They were fired and ready to go.
"I told by girls that good teams find a way to win in tight situations. And that's what we've done this year.
"Cheyenne (Marshall) hit the game winning shot. It wasn't a set play. We were surprised they came out in the zone. We were going inside, but we kicked the ball outside and she hit it.
"This team finds ways to win," said Fisher.
Saturday's game with Frank Phillips College was postponed due to the possibility of inclement weather, according to Fisher. No date has been re-set for the game.
Cowgirls next game with be Thursday, Jan. 24 when they host Western Oklahoma State College at 5:30 p.m.in an OCAC contest.
Connors held a 54-52 advantage with 38 seconds remaining in the game when the Cowgirls were called for double back at the mid-court stripe with 36 ticks left.
Murray missed on a shot from behind the arc and CSC's Vicky Duru, who finished with 18 points connected on 1-of-2 free throws to make it 55-52.
Murray's Toni Greene then drained her only shot from behind the arc to tie the game at 55-all from the left corner with 9.8 seconds left.
Marshall then drained her only 3-point attempt of the night with 2.8 seconds remaining for the win.
Shaniqaua Patterson led the Cowgirls scoring with 20, followed by Duru's 18. Aaliyah Endsley led Murray's scoring with 20 points with Madalyn Jessepe adding 11 for the Aggies.
