WARNER ---Connors Cowgirls never held the lead against visiting Western Oklahoma State Thursday night at Melvin Self Field House in an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference clash.
The result was a 68-60 loss to the Pioneers who improved to 9-10 for the season and 3-4 in OCAC play. The C owgirls are are now 13-6 overall and 5-3 in league play as the head to Seminole State Monday night for a 5:30 p.m. encounter.
Trailing by just five points at the half, Connors quickly fell behind by 10 points 40-30 with 5:07 left in the third quarter. Western stretched its lead to 18 points 63-45 with 3:23 remaining in the game.
Connors then made a late run at the Pioneers, but it was too late, coming no closer than the final score.
"Western did a really good job taking away our inside game," said Cowgirls head coach Jamie Fisher. Credit Western they did a lot of good things. They hit a lot of threes (12) as we didn't rotate properly and didn't play very good defense."
Cheyenne Marshall led the Cowgirls with 23 points, while Ramsey Wyche led the Pioneers with 21.
Cowgirls never led in the opening half, trailing 32-27 as they could not get their offense untracked.
Western jumped out to a 7-0 advantage to open the game, opening a six-point bulge twice, before Connors tied the game at 25-at with 2:25 remaining in the half on a trey by Marshall. The Pioneers regained the lead on a bucket by Ariel Williams.
