WARNER---Turnovers and failure to hit free throws domed the Connors Cowgirls as they fell to Eastern State 65-63 in Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

The loss drops the Cowgirls to 9-2 on the year and 1-1 in league play. Eastern is now 6-3 and 1-1 in conference action.

Cowgirls managed just 12-of-21 at the free throw line and had a chance to send the game into overtime. However, De'Asia Reid missed both attempts with five seconds left.

Reid led the Cowgirls scoring with 23 with Cheyanne Crain scoring 12 and Tateum Jones 11.

"I told the girls that free throws and turnovers are going to cost you," said Coach Jamie Fisher. "That's what happened tonight. We didn't play discipline defense and protect the basketball.

"Just didn't knock down our free throws in the clutch. I told De'Asia those last free throws had nothing to do with us losing.

"We missed a lot more free throws than that last one," said Fisher.

Cowgirls and Mountaineers battled to a standoff after two quarters of play deadlocked at 31-31.

Connors largest lead in the opening 20 minutes was eight points, 27-19 with 5:25 remaining in the second period.

Holding a 24-19 advantage lead Cowgirls' Mikayla Maxwell converted one-of-two free throws, before Tateum Jones rebound the missed shot for a put back, giving Connors the eight-point margin.

Mountaineers outscored the Cowgirls 10-4 to gain the deadlock at the intermission
