BARTLESVILLE—Connors State broke a 12-12 first quarter deadlock in the second period to cruise to a 77-55 victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan University Junior Varsity Tuesday on the Eagles home floor.
Cowgirls improved to 13-2 heading into their first semester season finale Friday at Melvin Self Field House against Frank Phillips College from Borger, Texas. Tip-off is 6.m.
"Its finals week and my girls are ready to go home for the Christmas break," said Cowgirls Coach Jamie Fisher. "They just really went through the motions tonight.
"To play a game in the middle of finals they did a good job of coming on strong late in the game. Our shots started to fall and we got to the free throw line.
"Our focus was to get ready for Friday's game with Frank Phillips. We used tonight's game to prep for them," said Fisher.
Three Cowgirls scored in double figures with Cheyanne Crain leading the attack with 16 points. Jasmyn Taylor and De'Asia Reid scored 14 points each for Connors.
Connors won the game at the free throw line draining 25-of-35 at the stripe, while canning eight shots from behind the arc.
Cowgirls outscored the Eagles 21-13 in the second quarter to grab a 33-25 advantage at the half. Connors then scored 21 and 23 points in the final two periods to pull away from the Bartlesville school. The Eagles tallied 12 in the third and 18 in the fourth quarter.
Cowgirls defeated the Eagles in an earlier meeting in November 89-58 on Connors home floor.
