
ENID—Connors State Cowgirls saw a five point lead evaporate in the final 2:31 against No, 23-ranked Northern Oklahoma-Enid.
The result was a heartbreaking 57-54 loss to the Jets in an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference clash Thursday.
The loss dropped the Cowgirls to 17-3 overall and 4-1 in OCAC play. Enid improves to 13-3 and 4-1 in league play.
Connors will return to league play next Thursday against league leading and 20th-ranked Redlands Community College at Melvin Self Field House.
"I told the girls after the game about time and score," said Coach Jamie Fisher "We just didn't get it down.
"We had the lead and they had to come and get us. We haven't been in this position before and we just broke down"
Cowgirls broke a 49-all deadlock with 3:53 remaining by scoring five unanswered points on a trey by Lauren Wright, who finished with 15 points. Kailen Wright then scored on a on a put-back by after a missed free throw by De'Asia Reid.
However, the Jets scored seven unanswered points to secure the victory,
Cowgirls had an opportunity to get the win but a turnover in the final 25 seconds secured the win for the Jets.
Enid held a 30-24 lead at the half, after jumping out to a 16-10 lead after the opening quarter.
Connors broke a 10-10 deadlock on back-to-back treys by Lauren Wright and Cheyanne Crain.
Wright led the first half scoring for the Cowgirls with 11 points.
The first half was tied three times, the last at 20-all with 4:55 remaining in the half.
The Jets revered up its engines and scored 10 unanswered points to take a 30-20 lead before the Cowgirls cut the Enid lead to six points on a bucket by Chalynn Mayes and a pair of free throws by Wright.
