
WARNER—Connors State Cowgirls snapped a six-game losing streak with an 87-77 Oklahoma Collegiate Conference victory over the NOC-Tonkawa Lady Mavs at Melvin Self Field House Monday.
Connors improves to 18-8 overall and 5-7 in OCAC play. Tonkawa is now 3-20 and 0-11 in league play.
Cowgirls will next play Northeastern A&M Thursday night in Miami, Okla.
The Cowgirls jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back as the Lady Mavs never held the lead.
"That was a good team win for us, a much needed win," said Cowgirls Coach Jamie Fisher. "It snapped that losing streak and we needed that."
Connors held an eight point advantage after the first quarter of play 23-15 and 43-30 at the break.
It was the inside play of De'Asia Reid and Zee McCalister that carried the Cowgirls to the first half bulge.
Reid finished with a double-double pulling down 14 rebounds and pouring home 24 points to lead the Connors scoring. McCalister followed with 20 points witbh Jasmyn Taylor adding 15 and Lauren Wright 10 more in the victory.
"Anytime you get four kids scoring in double figures, it's an all-around team effort," said Fisher.
Cassie Manning led Tonkawa with 17, followed by Radina Zhivacka's 15, with Caitlin Bailey and Chideyah Guyton adding 13 each.
The largest Cowgirls lead was 20 points 50-30 at the7:47 mark of the third quarter.
"We kind of got lacks when we had them down 20, and they went on a 13-4 run," said Fisher. "I told the team that is a club that never quits fighting. They always fight to the end, no matter their record" said Fisher.
Tonkawa came no closer than five points, 76-71 with 2:30 remaining in the game.
"We needed that win," said Fisher.
