
WARNER--Winning basketball is making the plays by not making mistakes.
The Cowgirls failed to "take care of the little" things and the result was a 61-51 loss to Northern Oklahoma-Enid at Melvin Self Field House Monday.
Cowgirls (28-10, 5-9) will now have a week (Feb. 24th) to regroup before they travel to El Reno to play Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Redlands. NOC-Enid improves to 17-7 and 8-5 in OCAC play.
"We just didn't hit our shots tonight and we lacked some defensive effort," said Cowgirls Coach Jamie Fisher.
"We had a couple of crucial missed assignments down the stretch, bad rotations, along with some key turnovers.
"We didn't play as well as we have the last couple of games," said Fisher.
De'Asia Reid led the Cowgirls scoring with 10 points while Lauren Wright added 13 in the loss.
Connors entered the third quarter tied with the Jets at 27-all, when the Enid club took command. Connors never led in the second half of play.
Cowgirls saw a 9-point lead evaporate late in the second quarter.The Jets outscored Connors 20-11 in the second period to take a 27-25 lead on a 3- shot by Black at the buzzer.
It was Black's three treys of the quarter which led the Jets' scoring with 11 points.
Reid led the Cowgirls' scoring with 10 points all coming from inside the paint.
Connors held its 9-point advantage 18-9 with 8:50 left in the second period before the Jets offense took off.
Enid outscored the Cowgirls 18-7 over the final 8:50 of the second half.
Tamara Combs led the Jets scorings with 13 points with Shelby Black and Taelor Parker scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.
