WARNER---Connors State revved up its offense in the fourth quarter to cruise past Arkansas Baptist College 62-40 Monday in the Women's Region 2 Play-in game at Melvin Self Field House.

"It took us a while to get our offense going as we missed a lot of open shots," said Cowgirls Coach Jamie Fisher.

"They (Arkansas Baptist) did a good job against us early. We just didn't hit open shots tonight like we did the other night against Murray.

"But we are happy to win, and advance to the tournament," said Fisher.

The Cowgirls will now take a 20-11 record into Wednesday's opening game of the Region 2 Tournament at Oklahoma Baptist University against the No. 1 seed and Oklahoma Collegiate Conference champion Redlands Community College Cougars.  Tip-off is 1 p.m.

In the season series against Redlands the Cowgirls lost twice to the Cougars, 64-49 and 68-54.

"We are looking forward to playing Redlands," said Fisher. "We are not afraid of them. We played them close both games and this tournament is wide open.

"Anyone can win it. All these clubs are very close."

The win gave the Cowgirls their first 20-win season since the 2010-11 basketball season. Arkansas Baptist closes its year at 6-21.

De'Asia Reid, who sat out much of the game due to foul trouble, still managed to score a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. She was the only Connors player to score in double figures.

"I thought we played really, really well defensively," said Fisher. "The whole key was to shut down 25 (Kalia Walker). The only way they could score was to get to the free throw line.

"We kept our composure and did what we had to do against her," said Fisher.

Connors held a 13-6 lead after the first quarter of play and a 27-19 advantage at the half.

Cowgirls stretched its lead to 11 points after three quarters of play, 42-31, before outscoring the Lady Bison 20-9 in the final 10 minutes to cruise to the victory.

Kalia Walker led the Arkansas club's scoring with 22, with 12 coming from the free throw line as she knocked down 12-of-14 attempts.

Connors was 10-of-11 at the charity stripe while the Lady Bison finished 14-of-20. Arkansas Baptist managed only 12 field goals in the game.
