The Cowgirls (3-1) had no difficulties against an University of Arkansas Cossatot Lady Colts Thursday evening. The Cowgirls corralled the Lady Colts by the score to 74-39 in their final tune up game before conference play begins next Monday evening versus Western Oklahoma.
"It was good tune-up game to get ready for conference play," said Cowgirl coach Jamie Fisher. "We tried to work on some things like our zone defense which we don't get to play often. Caylin Livers came in and hit some big threes and Cheyanne Crain also knocked in a couple of treys."
The Cowgirls were paced by post player Isabel Gonzales who had 13 points and 5 rebounds, Caylin Livers knocked down 4 three pointers all in the first half ending her evening with 12 points. The Cowgirls finished the evening with 10 out of 11 players contributing points and finished out rebounded the Lady Colts 60 to 33.
"I felt like we did a good job of making Cossatot take contested shots they weren't comforatable taking along with limiting them to one shot a possession," said Fisher.
The Cowgirls will open up conference play on Monday evening at 5:30 pm in Melvin Self Fieldhouse against (1-2) Western Oklahoma State College. The Cowgirls are excited to jump into conference play that will be consist of 16 games in the next two months.
"I am excited to start conference play next week and informed the girls that the three keys to conference play are: take it one game at a time, protect your home floor, and steal some games on the road," said Fisher.
