Cowboy's Basey Signs with Coastal Carolina

Connors State's head men's basketball coach Bill Muse and Coastal Carolina head coach Cliff Ellis announced on Tuesday the signing of Cowboys' Forward D.J. Basey to a National Letter of Intent.

Basey is a 6-foot-10-inch, 220-pound Rim Protector from Dallas, Texas, ranked as one of the best POst Players to play in the 2022 NJCAA National Tournament.

"We are excited to welcome D.J. the Coastal Carolina Family," Ellis said. "D.J. is a high energy, aggressive Post Player who scores around the rim. He has competed at a tradition-rich junior college program at Connors State under Coach Bill Muse and will bring quality experience to our program. D.J. is driven to become the best version of himself at Coastal Carolina and we are excited to help him."

Basey led the Cowboys this past season to a 28-6 overall record, including a Region II championship and an appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament before falling 101-98 to Hometown favorite Hutchinson Community College.

For the season, he averaged 10.3 points per game while shooting 61.4 percent from the field. He also averaged 6.8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game.

He posted 17 games of 10+ points, including a career-high 19 points in the final regular season game of the year at Northern Oklahoma College- Enid. 

D.J. spent his first two seasons at the University of Central Oklahoma un Edmond, Oklahoma competitng in the MIAA. Basey averaged 4.5 points per game while shooting 54 percent from the field for the Bronchos. He posted 6 double-digit scoring games in his two seasons in Edmond before transfering to Connors State.

The Dallas, Texas, native attended Poteet High School as a prep before signing with UCO, and Transfering to Connors State for his sophomore campaign with the Cowboys.
