Connors State Cowboys Cannot Hold Onto Lead Versus Rose State Raiders
Despite leading by as many as four runs, Connors State Cowboys fell to Rose State Raiders 10-9 on Sunday. Connors State Cowboys was right in it until Rose State singled in the eighth inning. Connors State Cowboys were the first to get on the board in the first when Brooks Hasenclever hit a solo home run to right field. Connors State Cowboys added one run in the third after Marc Nellis singled to center field. Rose State jumped into the lead in the top of the sixth when an error scored one run, and Atkinson doubled, scoring two runs. Connors State Cowboys captured the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the sixth after Logan Hedrick singled to the left side of the infield, Landon Holzhauer hit a sacrifice fly, and Hasenclever grounded into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run. Pattison lined out, which helped Rose State tie the game at five in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, Connors State Cowboys broke up the tie when Hedrick singled, scoring one run. Then a home run to left field by Holzhauer followed to extend the lead to 9-5. Rose State Raiders flipped the game on its head in the top of the eighth, scoring five runs on six hits to take the lead, 10-9. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Alvarez that drove in two. Jaxon Lee led things off on the hill for Connors State Cowboys. The starter allowed seven hits and four runs (three earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out six and walking three. Mullins began the game for Rose State. The starter allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking two. Connors State Cowboys amassed 11 hits in the game. Holzhauer led Connors State Cowboys with four runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Hedrick, Maddox Edwards, Nellis, and Christian Suarez each collected two hits for Connors State Cowboys. Hedrick stole two bases. Connors State Cowboys stole three bases in the game. Connors State Cowboys turned one double play in the game.
