Cowboys Blast Central Baptist 127-64, Muse Gets Win No. 600
Connors State head coach Bill Muse posted his 600th career victory Saturday night and it was in record fashion.
CONWAY, ARK. — Connors State head coach Bill Muse posted his 600th career victory Saturday night and it was in record fashion.
The Cowboys pummeled host Central Baptist Junior Varsity Silver squad 127-64, the most points a Connors State squad has scored in a single contest.
The previous mark was 121 established in the season opener against St. Gregory's 121-69. Those record offensive outputs tied or eclipsed the mark established in 1994 against Bacone College when they scored 121 points. It was the fifth time Connors surpassed the century mark this season.
The Cowboys placed six players in double figure scoring led by Ra'Shawn Langston's 21 points. Langston was followed by Terrance Jones' 19, Zaph Bobb 17, Burke Putnam 16, George Price 13, and A.J. Cockrell 11. All 11 Cowboys got into the scoring column.
The 26th-ranked Cowboys (8-0) will next play Central Baptist JV Blue squad on Monday at Melvin Self Field House at 7 p.m.
Muse is now 600-219 over 26 seasons at Connors State.
"Getting 600 wins is a tribute to all our players, assistant coaches, but mainly all the good players we've had here. The one thing about this is you usually get 600 wins moving around and not at one school.
"This has been good for me and my family. It's a nice number but we still have a lot to accomplish," said. Muse.
Defense according to Muse is the key to Cowboys wins and holding the opposition to under 70 points.
That was case Saturday as the Cowboys jumped out to a 59-23 lead at the intermission and was never contested by Central Baptist.
Victor Dukes led the Central Baptist scoring with 21 points and Ashford Golden with 17 in the loss.
