WARNER-Connors State's tenacious defensive play and command of the back boards led to a convincing 99-61 victory over visiting Oklahoma Wesleyan University Junior Varsity Friday night at Melvin Self Field House.
The 26th ranked Cowboys will take an unbeaten 7-0 record to Conway, Ark., on Saturday to play Central Baptist University JV at 7 p..m. before playing Central Baptist in a rematch on Monday night at Melvin Self Field House at 7 p.m.
The Cowboys placed five players in double figure scoring led by Mason Jones, who came off the bench to score 19 points. Jones was followed by Bishop Coulter's 15 points, Terrance Jones 14, with A.J. Cockrell and Burke Putnam with 10 points each.
"I thought we played better tonight on defense," said Muse. "I like the fact we had five guys score in double figures. And it wasn't one of our five starters that was a starter who led the scoring. I think that was a positive sign.
"I think we made some progress defensively and I hope we can carry it over to Saturday's game," said Muse.
A victory over Central Baptist on Saturday will give Muse his 600th career victory against  219 losses in 26 seasons as a head coach, all at Connors State.
"Getting 600 wins is a tribute to all our players, assistant coaches, but mainly all the good plovers we've had here. The one thing about this is you usually get 600 wins moving around and not at one school.
"This has been good for me and my family. It's a nice number but we still have a lot to accomplish," said. Muse.
Cowboys held a 20-point lead at the intermission 47-27 with Mason Jones leading the first half attack with 10 points.
Connors controlled the boards getting numerous second chance scoring opportunities.
Cowboys burst out to a 17 point advantage 27-10 at the 10-minute mark, before the Eagles sliced into the margin, cutting the Connors lead to 10 points, 30-20 with 6:38 left in the half.
Connors' Muse called a time out and the Cowboys went back to a 20-point margin 40-20 when Ra'Shawn Langston slammed home a dunk. The Eagles came no close the remainder of the half and the game.
