Connors Rolls Past Bacone Junior Varisty, 97-77

WARNER–Connors State playing without leading scorer Ra'Shawn Langston who was ill, overwhelmed visiting Bacone College Junior Varsity 97-77 Thursday night at Melvin Self Field House.

The unbeaten Cowboys (4-0) will next travel to Texas on Tuesday night to play Cedar Valley Community College in Dallas. Tip-off is 7 p.m.

The Cowboys had eight players score in double figures with Terrance Jones leading the attack with 16 points. Bruce Putnam, Darius Roy and Mason Jones scored 13 points each. Zaph Bobb added another 11 points while teammates AJ Cockrell, George Price and Bishop Coulter each scored 10 points in the victory.

"We have got to get better defensively," said Connors State head coach Bill Muse. "That has been an issue since we started. We just have to keep working on it and get better on that end."

A total of 56 fouls were called in the contest, something Muse was not pleased with the effort of his club.

"It was a long game.  We just made a lot of mistakes. Coming off a game (Arkansas Baptist) in which we played very well, then played like this.  It was a little bit of a letdown from that game."

Concerning the club's offensive output Muse said he was "somewhat" pleased.

"This gave me an opportunity to evaluate guys who haven't been getting a lot of minutes playing," said Muse. "They got a lot of minutes tonight because Langston was out.

"This makes me focus on who I have got to play when we get into conference play," he said.

Connors held a 47-35 advantage at the intermission then broke open the physically played contest midway the second half. Connors held a 22-point advantage 76-54 with 10:03 remaining in the game.

Cowboys then increased its lead to 31, the largest lead of the night 89-58 with 7:32 remaining.

Bacone scoring was led by Jarett Murphy with 20 points with Dalon Samuna adding another 18 in the loss.
