WARNER — €onnors State Cowboys, ranked No. 26 in the NJCAA preseason poll showed why Wednesday night at Melvin Self Field House.
The Cowboys rolled over visiting St. Gregory's Junior Varsity 121-69 to open the 2017-18 basketball season.
Connors placed six players in double figures led by Ra'Shawn Langston's 25 points. Langston was followed by sophomore Bishop Cloulter's 18 points, who was making his debut for the Cowboys, a transfer from Ranger Junior College in Texas.
Coulter was joined by Darius Roy's 17 points, A.J. Cockrell's 16, Mason Jones 15 and Terrance Jones' 11.
The Cowboys resume play Friday at home against Central Baptist JV at 7 p.m. and then again on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Mid-American JV at 2 p.m. Both games are at Melvin Self Field House.
"I thought we shot the ball pretty well, but we have a lot of things to correct," said head coach Bill Muse. "I thought we gave up way to many threes and that was irritating.
"We gave up way to many points as far as I was concerned. But we can fix some of that stuff. I like the fact we had six guys in double figures," said Muse.
Cowboys dominated the Cavaliers streaking to a 63-30 lead at the half. The Cowboys opened the final 20 minutes of play with a 12-3 barrage to put the game out of reach for St. Gregory's taking a 75-36 advantage with 8:20 left in the game.
The Cowboys surpassed the century mark with 7:30 left in the game on a bucket by Cockrell to make it 101-49, giving the Cowboys a 52-point advantage.
