WARNER –Connors State Cowboys placed four players in double figures to dominate visiting Eastern Oklahoma State 103-82 Thursday night at Melvin Self Field House for their 27th consecutive victory and the fifth year in a row to win an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference victory on Bill Muse court without a loss.
The 13th-ranked and OCAC champion Cowboys (26-3, 14-2) will now await the winner of Region II play-in-game on Monday to open the Region II Tournament March 7-10 at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee.
Sophomore Ra'Shawn Langston led the scoring assault for the Cowboys on Sophomore Night with a 30-point performance. He was followed by Mason Jones' 22 point output with Darius Roy pumping home 19 and Bishop Coulter draining 16 more in the win.
"We had balanced scoring with four different guys tonight," said Muse. "I thought Langston played extremely well in his last home game.
"We got off to a good start and we defended much better in the first half, when we have a tendency to relax a little bit. Still it was a good overall win."
Leading by 15 points 37-22 with 6:51 left in the first half the Cowboys outscored the Mountaineers (14-12, 4-12) 15-8 to take a commanding 17-point lead into the locker room at the half.
Connors then stretched its margin to 21 points, 64-43 with 16-55 remaining to put it out of reach for the Mountaineers.
Eastern came no closer than 14 points the remainder of the game, the last with 2:30 remaining 96-78.
Connors tied the century mark for the eighth time this season on a bucket by Coulter and then went over the 100-point plateau on a 3-point shot by Langston with 30-seconds remaining.
Connors drained 11 from behind the arc while Eastern, who averaged 10 per game on the season, was held to just five.
Teven Brewer led the Eastern scoring with 30 points, with Elisha Hobbs adding 19 and Todd Dawkins scoring 15.
Looking ahead at the Region II Tournament Muse said they will meet the winner of the Eastern and Arkansas Baptist game in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
"The bracket will be set Friday and we will probably play at 6 p.m. Anybody has a chance to win this tournament when you play back-to-back-to back.
"Our depth is a little factor right now. I haven't played a lot of guys, but a few have played a lot of minutes" said Muse.
