MIAMI, OKLA.—Connors State Cowboys could not overcome 30 turnovers and a 40-point second half barrage by Northeastern A&M as they fell to the Norsemen 71-62 in an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference clash Monday night at the NEO Field House.
The loss drops the Cowboys to 14-4 for the year and 3-2 in league play while NEO improves to 12-5 and 3-1. Connors will play Murray State Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Melvin Self Field House.
"I thought we played a solid first half, both offensively and defensively," said Cowboys head Coach Bill Muse. "The second half they just outhustled us again
"We had too many turnovers that led to easy baskets. And, we did not shoot a very good percentage the second half at all
"That resulted in the end result. Plus they outrebound us the whole game," said Muse.
Connors and NEO were tied at the half 31-all, but the Norsemen forced the Cowboys into numerous turnovers and controlled the boards.
The Norsemen held a 19-point advantage twice in the second half, the last with 3:00 remaining 71-52. Connors only lead of the second half was 35-34 with 17 minutes remaining on a pair of free throws by Putnam, 35-34.
Isiah Jones led Connors scoring with 15 points followed by Burke Putnam's 11 and Jordan Graham's 10.
