The Cowgirls had a short turnaround to prepare for their OCAC game at Tonkawa Monday evening, but they also had short term memory from Saturday's overtime heartbreaking loss to NEO as well. The Cowgirls battled in another overtime game Monday evening to defeat the Lady Mavs on the road 63-57 in Piper Fieldhouse. The Cowgirls only lead the game until overtime at the start 5-0 and trailed as much as 10 when the score was 46-36 in the fourth quarter.
The Cowgirls were lead in scoring by sophomore post player Isabel Gonzalez with 19 points, Cheyanne Crain added 17 points. The game was a remake of Saturday's contest with NEO expcept with the Cowgirls on the other end of the spectrum. Sophomore guard Zipporah McCallister hit a deep 3 point shot with 12 seconds on the clock to force overtime.
The Cowgirls took control in overtime by scoring 11 points in overtime with 5 of them coming from the charity strip, and the Cowgirls held onto the the 63-57 victory.
"I felt like we did a fantastic job of staying in the moment and plugging away to force the game into overtime, "said Cowgirl Head Coach Jamie Fisher. "We did a fatastic job of knocking down our free throws and also capatilzing on missed Tonkawa's missed opportunities." said Fisher
The Cowgirls will be in action again on Thursday evening inside Melvin Self Fieldhouse for a rematch with rival NEO A&M game time is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
"It was a great feeling to get the WIN again, but now we have to stay in the moment and turn our attention to NEO." "We have a score to settle with them, and we are excited for the opportunvity to play them at home for the A&M Rivalry Game." said Fisher
