McDonald returns to Connors to be new Assistant Coach
This season the Cowgirl program will have a new but familiar face on the bench as former Cowgirl Mikiah McDonald is tabbed as the new assistant coach for the program. Head Coach Jamie Fisher named Mikiah McDonald as his new assistant coach this August to replace former assistant coach Porsche' Young, who left the program to accept the head coaching position at Putnam City High School. McDonald has previously served as the assistant coach for her alma mater Roland High School for 3 years. While on the coaching staff at Roland, the Lady Rangers finished class 3A state runner-up in 2020-2021 with a record 25-1.
Before Mikiah began her coaching career at Roland High School she was a member of the University of Arkansas Fort-Smith Women's Basketball season where she played post and graduated with her bachelor's degree. Before transferring to UAFS she played at Connors State for current head coach Jamie Fisher. While attending Connors Mikiah was named an NJCAA Academic All-American as a freshman and sophomore and was also named to the All-Conference team her sophomore season.
"This is a great hire for the Cowgirl Program having Mikiah back on the sidelines," said Head Coach Jamie Fisher. "Mikiah was a good player for us and more importantly she understands the Cowgirl Culture and has a deep love for Connors State College I couldn't be more excited for this hire," said Fisher.
McDonald will start immediately assisting Coach Fisher in all the day-to-day projects, take full charge of all the academics, will work closely with the Cowgirl post players, and assist in scouting and recruiting.
"Being able to come back to where I had a huge impact as a player and now get to help make a huge impact as a coach is a blessing to me," said assistant coach Mikiah McDonald. "Connors will always be a place that holds a special place in my heart, from playing 2 seasons here, and being named an Academic All-American Connors will always be a part of me. From wearing the jersey to now coaching someone in the jersey is a blessing, and my journey is about to begin. I can't wait for the season to start and I am filled with so much excitement and happiness to be a part of it all," said McDonald.
The Cowgirls will open their season at home on November 2nd at 5:30 pm while hosting Mid-America University JV.
